This is a terrifically organized and personal examination of transitioning. My trans son did all these steps, but I didn’t have them so clearly laid out in my mind. The legal transition sounds appalling (the NC one). Here in Iowa my son legally transitioned before he was 18 (new name and sex on birth certificate) and it was simple…note from his medical doctor and filled out a form and few under $100. That’s the legacy of having been a once been a purple state. Unfortunately, we’re growing redder all the time.
