I’ve been writing and publishing a long long time. And long ago I accepted my passion wasn’t mainstream enough to make more than beer money. Medium was a wonderful surprise to me my first year when beer money became hobby money.

These days, I merely cover my membership fee and must forgo the beer. If it could cover the Friends fee, I’d do it. But I’m not going to pay to publish; I’m not going to pay Medium cash in addition to giving them my content which they then resell.

I assume most readers here also publish. That means Medium’s content providers (all of us) are paying rather than getting paid. State of the internet, I get it, but it will not sustain if that money isn’t finding its way to the lower tiers. Fucking pyramid scheme. We’ll always be moving on to the next site that starts out more fair before it, too, starts choking out more cash from its community.
