I always think of the bonobos, the difference between chimpanzees and bonobos. The bonobos are dying out. The chimpanzees are thriving. Gentle, community-focused, pleasure-seeking bonobos can't out compete the territorial, individualistic, brutal chimpanzees. Life on earth selects for violence. I'm not sure humans are the worst. I mean, insects are pretty damn vicious. But of all life on earth, we can choose to act against our own self-interests and act for the future. When we do, we become gods, don't we? But we are more closely descended from chimpanzees.
