"Appearing out of thin air" is probably what I think of as my fingers know things my brain doesn't. When I start writing, I have a feeling, but words and ideas appear that I haven't conceptualized ahead of time. Then, once I have a rough draft of any kind of writing, the absolute joy is in the crafting that comes through editing. I write in many genres, so I've made lists to help, but I'm able to generalize that, no matter what the genre, I always write about power, sex, and damage. Medium has been a great place to make connections related to writing. I wrote a story a while back about why I'm on Medium. There was a lot of humor, but essentially it is this: the act of creation, not the result, is unstoppable.
BTW "Intelligent Misbehavior is the willingness to challenge the unnecessarily limiting rules in our culture that undermine personal and professional growth. It’s also about breaking your own hidden rules" summarizes my growth as a writer and is good advice for every kind of creator.
